Minecraft YouTube and the lost charm of honesty Jan. 27 2026

I feel like this is a really stupid opinion to have, and at the same time too long to be screamed at for the echo chamber that is Twitter.com or Bluesky. However, I kinda need to talk about this because I'm just starting to feel the MrBeastification of the platform on my face. I was watching a video about an event a YouTuber put in 2023 (took them 2 years to upload it lol), and I was intrigued because it could've been interesting. In a way, it was for the most part, but a significant amount of things simply felt... off... Not in the sense that I could foreshadow what will happen, but in the sense that the pacing and video style feels too similar to that of a video by Donaldson. This video is paced like a story, where the main character is the narrator (not surprised, it just be like that in general), and from what I can gather from all of this is that the narrator is setting up a stage, but oh surprise! It turns out they were actually lying! And this is what ACTUALLY occured... I've seen this YouTuber saying "The story I've told you was almost completely honest, but it was told from the perspective from the other people", and I wholeheartedly disagree; It's not being honest about it. The more I kept watching, the more I realize that these Minecraft videos that are about retelling an event on an SMP server are just MrBeast videos in Minecraft.

There's the video title presented as the conflict, then the players as characters, then they're retold like they underwent an arc like this isn't just a voxel game that people play for fun, then it turns out that the video was pulling another Unreliable Narrator! Talk about a major plot twist! Really, what is the point of an unreliable narrator? What is the point of using a framing device like a character arc where the dumb character is actually smart and saves us all? What is really the point on overexaggerating an event and gatekeeping vital information about the story until the turning point where it's all presented as a major plot twist? Well, the answer is pretty simple ans easy to realize: it's because you need the #CONTENT, but it really gets to a point. A hefty amount of these YouTubers overexaggerate it without the proper lampshading, and this video just made me sigh when the major plot twist is that all previous exposition was simply fake and actually the characters that I am part of are actually very smart. I get it, this was a video about duplicity and bluffing, but is there really a need to do this to the viewer? Well yes, this kind of overdone plot twist is to keep the viewers engaged, because #CONTENT! Like the video and I'll exaggerate it more next time! There is a proper way to do this, a way to have an unreliable narrator that doesn't feel like you're being BS'd.

I already imagined a big reveal was in the horizon, but it nevertheless made feel like an idiot and it made me feel more idiotic for not just clicking away. Especially because all of these stories feel like they have a forced set of character arcs, unreliable narration where a character outsmarts the other because of this or that, and a few ton other more stories because we must keep the keep the viewer retention. What really rubbed me the wrong way and caused me to rant about something so stupidly trivial as it is "Minecraft videos on YouTube" is the ending of this video that I was watching, where the creator pulled back the curtain and revealed that this indeed was overly dramatized and the event was actually pretty lame, and then tries to finish it off with - what i felt was - a sugarcoated insult to the viewer: "Which ending would have been best? And which ending would you have preferred?" Can we just have a straight-up retelling of the events with no extra BS added for the sakes of #CONTENT? Please? I appreciate being truthful for one, because the average #CONTENT creator would've simply kept the dramatization and overexaggeration until past the outro, but I think i'd prefer that more than just saying RIGHT AT THE END "Oh btw, I exaggerated everything and made up some stuff because I want you to stay engaged".

The fact that every Minecraft video with an interesting premise now has to be a story where the underdog is the winner on something that simply shouldn't even have a story to begin with, is why I wrote "the lost charm of honesty" in the title of this Random Thought. Everything feels so fake an manufactured to deliver a story that in retrospect isn't even that good. There have been MC YouTubers that did a proper story using the game as a medium, such as evbo with Parkour Civilization, or ExplodingTNT with all his machinimas. There are better ways to retell events in Minecraft servers, like how FitMC does with 2B2T: When he tells these stories, he doesn't pull this Unreliable Narrator trope, and when he's in the story he clearly states it. Of course, he might be biased when retelling the story because he's a human, but he feels as subjective as it can be, and you can trust the fact he doesn't do any dumb lampshading, he is being honest.

The other thing I'd have to talk about are the youTubers Lomedy and Wifies, I liked a few of their videos and they were cool and stuff, but their most recent works threw me off because of a similar reason. Why are we presenting these stories as Direct Line to the Author if they can do fine on their own? Wifies' adaptation of The King In Yellow is great, but having it being presented as an "ARG" (or as an unfiction webseries, which is what it actually is) throws me off guard because... Why not just making the ARG? Why not just telling the story as it is instead of staging and scripting an "ARG Explained" type of video? It feels dishonest to me, despite them both being honest about it simply being all fictional. I know that they're meant to enhance the immersion but tome it's always rubbed me the wrong way, because it simply doens't feel honest. Why should I trust a creator that could be gatekeeping information and deliberately lying? I really don't like this sort of unreliable Content Creator wave, especially now that this trope is being overdone and not being subversed. It's why I said honesty is a lost charm. Because with everything being scripted and staged like a PACKGOD video, why should I trust any footage that I'm seeing? Why would I watch a video where I'm lied to in an effort to keep my attention at least so I don't click away from it? And even then, why should I care about staged videos with (sometimes) forced stories? At that point, I think I'd just be better off watching MrBeast, the YouTuber that influenced the YouTubers that influenced these new YouTubers.

What is slang anymore Dec. 15 2025

I'm a bit scared and confused, like the public in "We become what we behold". The way the english language evolves thanks to the internet and globalization, and the ADD/ADHD epidemic I like to call "TikTok-ification" is so fast that I can't really catch up anymore... The young netizens of around my age or lower have been using so much slang and every single one of them last less than a year; Mind you, slang in general are characteristic of a generation or a place, like a dialect.

I mean, think about it: Have you been saying or at least heard people say "W rizz"? Has anyone been saying that this "Only happens in Ohio"? Hell, that was like JUST 2 YEARS AGO. Last year people were saying "Hawk tuah!", "Lunchly!", "Thick of it!". This year alone we've undergone so many, "dih", "mi bombo", "61" and now we're undergoing whatever the fuck "lowkirkenuinely" even means. Yes, I know what "low-key" and "genuinely" mean as words and I do know who Charlie Kirk was, I am aware of the meme about using Generative AIs to replace someone's face with Kirk's. But seriously, what does any of this even mean? Is slang just not real anymore? Are they all just big memes that mean nothing?

I know that the joke is that they mean nothing the way they're used, but can we for one HAVE an actual slang that ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING!? The closest words to do it are "twin" and "tuff". But besides those... Damn, we really are fucked. So many advancements in technology only for us to lose our intelligence, AIs are meant to do the hard work for us, not the thinking (Let alone the Arts).

ROBLOX Asyms are all so much the same... Jul. 4 2025

I'm just gonna regurgitate what I said on Twitter. I saw some of my friends glaze the animations of a ROBLOX game (another asym that tries to be DBD but ends up as Among Us Hide and Seek) and it just made me realize: These games are just hype moments and aura. Don't get me wrong, animations are an important aspect that makes a game feel more lively and polished, but the KEY aspect of a game is, well... The gameplay. I'm not trying to hate on these games at all, but they all just feel the same game but with a different presentation. I'd rather have a game with crappy anims if it means a good gameplay that shakes up the formula. By this I mean, have the core concept of these asyms be something more than just "Survivors must wait until the time runs out, they can do generators with the same flow puzzle to barely reduce time". Hide and Seek made the tasks few and made them varied, unlike most of these games where they're more and they're completely avoidable, because when a survivalist dies the killer gets more time.

It's fine to like the designs, concepts and animations of these games, but the most important aspect of these games is the gameplay itself (the best example of this is Balan Wonderworld, a game that had a great art style and marvelous characters, like Balan, yet a gameplay so utterly flawed that simply made the game overall suck; Another good example of this is probably Pizza Tower, a game with barely a story that most simply don't care about because they all just want to wreck everything as the Italian chef with an anxiety attack); And to me, the games all just play the same so they all just feel the same and it gets tiring because i'm playing the same game again and again and again.

Everything amounts to nothing Jul. 4 2025

At one point you feel like nothing, it feels like everything you do comes out as a failure. It feels like you've let so many people down that you wonder why they even talk to you if you're wasting their time. It's a horrible feeling to believe that all the hard work you've made eventually resulted in something as un-rewarding as starting over from scratch. It's a horrible feeling I'm having, like all this work put into this grandiose project only for it to not be successful, all these hours studying only to get a terrible failing grade. It sucks.

But if that's the case, what's the point in moving forward? What keeps the wheel spinning for us if we're like Sisyphus and our boulder that we rolled up the mountain, so close to the peak, only for it to roll back down to the bottom? What is the reason on "imagining Sisyphus happy"? I think that it's because somewhere deep down within ourselves, we still have hope. We have something within us that tells us "It's okay, we just have to try again. It's hard, but not impossible!". When we imagine him happy, we're imagining that everything ALWAYS amounts to something. We failed, but now we've got to learn from our failures and mistakes.

I'm starting to lose hope within myself, but something tells me that this time we're gon' making out. It might be my brain being conflicted or scared of failing again. But I promise that I'll try to keep going. I'll be okay.

A Minecraft Movie is Unconventionally Amazing Apr. 16 2025

Honestly, as bad as it might be and as bad as it is to make a living nightmare out of cinema employees with the chicken jockey scene, A Minecraft Movie did something amazing: It got people gathered up in a theatre and managed to entertain them and made them have fun, with all the cheering ovation when the meme one liners from the trailers showed up. It made people remember that cinema is, besides an artistic expression, a form of entertainment. A place where people get entertained when watching a movie. This movie was so unconventional and unexpectedly funny that it was truly the best form of entertainment I've seen in years, it's amazing seeing everyone just get riled up in a standing ovation when Jack Black, the most unconventional actor to ever be cast as the default blank slate of Minecraft, does the funny scene from the trailer. I swear this movie is so awesome for what it's made and I hope more movies that are meant mainly to ENTERTAIN appear.

What happens when we're forgotten? Apr. 14 2025

Being ignored is one unbearable feeling. Having to try to talk with someone and just getting no answer simply because they choose not to reply is simply horrible. It's as if you know what will be said will just be forgotten because it'll fall on deaf ears, and I think that's what makes it so soul-crushing. The concept of a second death, which is when someone says your name for the last time, is usually attributed to Banksy, although it was actually created by Irvin Yalom; And some people may be afraid about it even more about the first death, since it means one's life has meant nothing at all. I know I haven't made a big impact on the internet in the grand scheme of things, but if tomorrow I get ran over by a speeding truck, or fall down the stairs and die; would this website even be visited anymore? I haven't told anyone my personal name, so they wouldn't be able to look it up to see if I died. The issue with this is that if I died this website could become a simple memento of who I was as a person, or at least what I wanted to do. But there'd be no reason to come back after a single visit, would it? Eventually people will come and go but there'd be no reason to come back and the traffic flow dies out. I'd know this since Happy Home in Robloxia had a flow of people playing a dumb hangout with an abnormal amout of badges now averages an amout of 0 CCU as of writing this. Considering these are sentient NPCs, and now that people forgot about it, do you think they have entered a sort of limbo state? This state could very much be close to the ever-so dreaded Place1, except that they never truly died in a literal way. We're at a time where elements aren't collecting dust, and are easy to be lost to time; And to elaborate on it we're in an ever-burning Library of Alexandria. Jim, The Postman, Rig, the Noob and the NPCs are essentially starting to be covered in a figurative layer of dust, and I doubt that people will even care about it since they don't know about it, plus there is so much better content than a poorly-programmed hangout game that looks abysmal in order to make fun of a trend that is thankfully raising the bar which already makes this game age more. But what happens then? What happens to these NPCs? Do they just leave and keep the game empty? Do they just devolve into madness because they're trapped for eternity in there? What will it be of them? What will it be of it? I'll be honest, I'll probably make another game after Super Blox Kart that will tackle this train of thought more.

Phrases that are stuck in my brain Apr. 1 2024

I don't celebrate April fools this day, so this isn't a joke really... We all have phrases that mark us or make us ponder for a good amount of time about something. Here are some that did with me for one reason or the other

  • "Kick, Punch! It's all in the mind" -Chop Chop Master Onion
  • "When you become untouchable, you're unable to touch" -The Living Tombstone
  • "When a house is both hungry and awake, every room becomes a mouth" -ANATOMY
  • "A good game gives you a philosophical question, a masterpiece does it right in the title" -JonTron (back when he made videogame reviews)
  • "The Sultan of Oman lives in Zanzibar now" -bill wurtz
  • "You milked the death of your girlfriend for enough karma at this point" -r/Minecraft moderation team
  • "It's just a game you play here in this Labyrinth Maze" -Miracle Musical
  • "Kiss my ass!" -Pizza Granny

The Most Myterious Song On The Internet is so good Feb. 21 2024

It makes me really sad not knowing the author of the song, yet the ominous aura that it has, something you would hear in the 80s but end up forgetting about it, a song that you feel like you have heard before, the liminality of the song is something I dig. The song is great for stuff like liminal spaces and it can work to reflect the loneliness of an empty space where you're the only person, and the only piece of media that i know of that is aware of this is MyHouse.pk3.

I really want to make an ARG that includes this song in some way.

Nov 4 Edit: IT GOT FOUND!!!!! FEX - Subways Of Your Mind

Tuxedos are amazing Sep. 7 2023

I suddenly felt the urge to talk about how great tuxedo suits are in general, they're just so awesome.

They just make you feel like you're important and well respected, or like a supermodel. Listening to Luxury by Azealia Banks while wearing one makes you feel like you're doing a modeling montage, or like someone is making an edit of you, or you're the mysterious and edgy antihero.

They may just be expensive but that feeling of upper-class, main character, Tumblr sexyman is worth it in my opinion.

How to fight doxxing May. 22 2023

If you think about it, the best way to avoid getting truly doxxed is by spreading misinformation about yourself, I could perfectly say that I live in the Argentine city of Puerto Madryn, but somewhere else I could say that I live in San Salvador de Jujuy, then say more false info about myself. Since you're the main source of information for doxxers to get to know your real name and all intimate data about you, saying wrong or false things about you gives them a harder time finding out who you really are. Nowadays doxxing is so easy because of the private stuff we post online without noticing, so spreading misinformation is ironically a good thing to avoid doxxing, but you gotta do it right for doxxers not to know what's the truth in a sea of lies.

Will Wood - Barbie Girl (ft. Jamiroquai) Feb. 6 2023

So could you imagine how would a collab between Will Wood and Jamiroquai be? I imagine it would be a mixture of jazz and funk just for some inherent topic like about the world or a cover of something weird, like Good for your Soul by Oingo Boingo or Barbie Girl by Aqua. Honestly I would listen to it because it would be the weirdesr banger made by mankind or pure utter trash that would become your guilty pleasure, like the musical equivalent of the Maryland flag.

REALLY old memoryDec. 7 2022

When I was 3 years old, my mom was taking me to the kindergarten, and for some reason I thought to myself I would remember this moment... I still do.

How does Sausage Party work?Nov. 20 2022

This is incredibly dumb to wonder, but how does the lore of Sausage Party work?

Think about it for a second, it's known that the products are alive, and most of them come from animals and vegetables which are alive. How do they come to life? Like, does the soul of the animal / vegetable transfer into the product and they come alive? Is the animal / Vegetable reborn? If so, is the final product (like a stew or hamburger) alive/born? is the food reborn as a piece of shit in the toilet?
